Living Fit, Living Happy

Hello NEXT LEVEL members,

We have here for you a testimonial from some one you all know. I thought it important to share because it helps all of us stay on point when it comes to staying healthy. So here it is:

I'll never forget the first time I started a fitness regimen. No, I'm not talking about a P.E. class where you're forced to play field hockey or do the 1 mile run from time to time. I mean, really, truly decided to get serious about getting fit and changing the way I lived. I started running with a group of girlfriends in the hills of Montana, 3-5 miles a day, 3 days a week. I appreciated the fact that I could share this scenery with my friends and enjoy a cup of coffee after with them, but the best part was that runner's high that lasted...all day. I noticed that I started to change, for the better. My mind felt clearer, my focus was better, my insight sharper. Exercise was the best medicine I'd ever had!

On top of that, I started noticing a change in the way I ate. My body craved healthy food to fuel it up, and I started to pay attention to those needs and catered to it. I started adding more fruits and veggies, snacking more frequently to satisfy my growing hunger, and low and behold, despite my increased intake, I lost weight! Exercise stoked my metabolic fire, inspired me to make healthier choices, and helped me look and feel better about myself.

As my confidence built up, I started to add in Tae-bo, then weights, and eventually (when I moved back to California), personal training with Abu. Fitness became a critical part of my every day routine and it helped me get through both the good and the bad that I'd face throughout my high school and college years. Last year I spent 8 months training for the Nike Marathon, and this year I'm loving my new Filipino Boxing class that is, quite frankly, kicking my butt...and I adore it! From my experience, it's important to challenge yourself and try new things, or else you'll get bored and you either won't see results or might decide to give up all together... and no one wants that!

As I finish up my last year of college and start to stress out about the next 5 (5?!) years of grad school, it's hard to stay calm sometimes, but exercise helps me do it. When I have a100 page article to read and then write a paper on by tomorrow? Okay, stay calm...read it on the elliptical, and take a few jumping jack and push up breaks every hour or so when you start to get stir crazy. Maybe that sounds wild to some people, but trust me it works! Haven't you noticed how refreshed and motivated you feel after a quick burst of exercise? For me, exercise is my sanity, my joy, and my passion. I hope all of you can find the same happiness and enthusiasm from your fitness lifestyle...at NEXT LEVEL FITNESS! :)

Sincerely

Aurora Baxter
