Harm in this case can be the foods you choose to eat when you're out and about living your life. In one of my last blogs I emphasized the importance of thinking ahead as to what you may want to eat during the day so that you don't binge and make the incorrect choices that prolong the results you're looking for when training. I want to share with you my breakfast that I had this morning:
Small bowl of Cherrios with 1/3 cup of whole milk
1 Slice of (Trader Joe's Whole Wheat Honey bread) with TJ's unsalted butter, 1 tsp of Duerr's Marmalade
2 cups of Good Earth Tea with 1 slightly heaping tsp of sugar ( OK, I like sweet things!)
In general, my other meals and snacks include:
Midday snack TJ Fizzy water (carbonated), Honey crisp apple, yogurt raisins,
Lunch (left overs from Dinner). protein, vegetable or salad and carbohydrates (my biggest meal with the most calories)
Dinner is the same as lunch. Except something different, but consisting of the same basic food groups.
Beverages: Water, Tea and maybe Fizzy H20 with OJ (similar to Orangina)
I always have dessert. (serving size portion)
Meats are grilled or baked. Everything is fresh and minimally processed.
So now that you have this information, what do you do with it? Well, use it as a guideline for your own food choices. To summarize:
Your food choice choices should be as simple as possible. A protein, a vegetable/salad, a carbohydrate with a beverage low in sugar.
Here's an example of what to do in tough situations:
You're out and about and for some reason the only place that you have available to eat is a fast food joint. It could be any of the ones out there. They all basically sell the same stuff. They just have different names and ingredients.
Okay. What are your choices? Let's assume typical condiments ( mustard, mayonnaise, ketchup), Playdough bread with a burger patty and cheese (Yuck.Cheese on meat. I don't think so.), and a 20 oz. soft drink with fries. Or you could have a garden salad with balsamic vinegar, water, vitamin water, burger patty, fish patty, chicken strips. By eliminating the sauces and the liquid sugar, you can put together a nutritious meal and still get the calories you need to function. The trick is wanting to do it. Yeah, grease tastes good. But grease also sticks to you arteries and accumulates on your butt.
Make the right, easy, and sound choice. Your body will thank you for it, and so will I.
