You don't lose weight because you sweat!

2/19/10

I read somewhere recently about someone who was wondering aloud why they weren't losing any weight. I found out that they have been exercising for only 4 weeks! Unfortunately we don't lose weight because we walked on the treadmill for an hour. Our bodies are designed to work. So we have to work. To lose a pound of body fat it requires you to restrict or burn 3500 Cal a week. That has been the formula for the past 30 years. What you consume is either metabolized or it's stored for later use. In the modern work world our work environment is confined therefore limiting the range of motion necessary for us to move our bodies around. Therefore the propensity to store energy.

Please discipline yourself to read food labels. It only takes a few seconds to familiarize yourself with what a serving size is. If you have measuring cups measure out your food. In the short term you'll get a better idea about what a particular serving of food looks like and you'll get a good sense of portions of what your being served or serving yourself.

Here are some ideas for a healthy meal.

1. Chunk light tuna + mixed greens + walnuts (sesame, other nuts) + balsamic vinegar
2. Salmon avocado roll+ edamame+miso cup+green tea
3. Shrimp + soba noodles + broccoli + light soy sauce

Fish has been found to provide a higher level of omega-3 fatty acids compared to beef which provide more nutritious oils that can help burn fat and provide an energy boost when working out. These healthy oils aid in making the body be full and helps satiety. Which minimizes binge eating on unhealthy foods

Here is vegetable that you should try in your dishes whether there soups, stews or salad: Parsnip!

A serving has 7g of fiber, 30 mcg of vitamin K (bone development), 30 mg Vitamin C.

To summarize:

Reduce or burn 500 calories a day.
Measure your food to get a sense of portions.
Increase foods with high omega-3 fatty oils (or supplements).

These little things can make a big thing. Which is changing your body!

To your health and well being!
